Think-Move-Feel Better

Sports & Remedial Massage

Sports & Remedial Massage involves deep tissue work, such as is required in many painful conditions and by athletes who want to enhance their performance. It is a special form of massage that is often used before, during and after athletic events, however it can also be used to treat persistent troublesome areas and you don't have to be into sports to benefit from it. For the athlete, both amateur and professional, it is a valuable part of any training regime, reducing the likelihood of injury and improving recovery time after training and this massage is geared toward athletes of every level, or those who just enjoy a deeper type of massage.

At your appointment you will be assessed for range of motion in affected joints and associated areas and then treated accordingly using a range of approaches. Depending on your needs, a variety of techniques can be used including various elements of Swedish Massage and a combination of other techniques involving compression, friction, toning, trigger point release, isolated stretching techniques, mobilisations and dry needling.

The Sports & Remedial Massage offered at Arabella Therapies brings together this blend of techniques, knowledge and advice. The techniques used promote better circulation and can help muscle inflammation. This is something of a turbo treatment compared to the softer techniques of Swedish Massage, the pressure applied in a Sports Massage also promotes a faster healing time.

Soft tissue techniques employed in Sports Massage  are effective in the management of both acute and chronic injuries.

When Should I Get A Sports Massage?

Sports and Remedial Massage is not just for sports people but can help EVERY BODY!

A Sports Massage is a good choice if you have a specific problem -- a sore knee from running, for instance, or aching back or neck and shoulders from driving or sitting at a desk.
The therapist  focuses in on the problem area,  but will look at other areas which may be involved in causing pain e.g heel pain can be caused by tight calf muscles.

As well as its direct effect on the muscles and areas addressed, the massage also reduces the heart rate and blood pressure, increases blood circulation and lymph flow, reduces muscle tension, improves flexibility and relieves pain, so is great for promoting athletic endurance and performance and lessens the chance of injury or just helping to alleviate the pain of chronic problems.

Although it can be relaxing, a Sports Massage may initially cause discomfort due to the  pressure applied to sore muscles, so if you have acute injuries such as muscle tears, open wounds, sprained ligaments, varicose veins, thrombosis, cancer, tumours, melanoma or haemophilia, it’s probably best avoided.
People with diabetes should be aware that Sports Massage will have the same effects as exercise.
